Greenville Wildlife Removal Tip of the Month: How to keep groundhogs away from your property

Are you fed up of having groundhogs dwelling in your property, and damaging all the vegetation that you have been growing? Indeed, groundhogs can make you lose a significant amount of money by causing damage. These little pesky rodents are famous for causing havoc in the place where they choose to settle.

Groundhogs are also famously known as woodchucks. These rodents despite being small, are known to eat a big portion of their own body weight. In case they keep eating this much out of your garden or vegetation, they are likely to rip you off.

Moreover, due to constant burrowing underneath the ground, there is a huge chance that groundhogs will damage the structural foundations of your house which could very well result in an accident if left unmonitored for a long time. Moreover, these rodents are known to damage trees by burrowing near the barks. Due to this reason, the trees become susceptible to catching a number of diseases.

In case you are fed up, you can try the following methods to keep them away. However, these may work or not, depending on a case to case basis. It is, however, always recommended to get help from a good animal control company.

Woodchucks/groundhogs are said to find eggs quite repelling. However, there seems to be no reason why a groundhog or any rodent for that matter, would feel repelled by eggs. Hence, there is really no guarantee whether putting eggs near the woodchuck’s burrow will keep it away. Well since this is not an expensive method, you will not lose anything if you try. Except for a few eggs of course. Simple crack an egg open and pour it over the burrow. Then, cover it with some dirt. Do this do each and every burrow that you find. In case it works, the groundhogs will be gone for good. However, this will be a temporary fix even if it does work.

Just like eggs, castor oil is also considered as something that deters groundhogs. Simply mix some castor oil in water and spray the mixture all over your garden. Since groundhogs do not like to be anywhere near it, it is likely that they will be deterred from nibbling on your vegetation. Again, this is not a guaranteed method and its effectiveness will vary from case to case. It is yet again, a temporary fix.

One possible way to keep groundhogs away from your property is to use fences. In case the groundhog does not enter in your property, there is obviously no way that it will choose to settle inside. So install thick fences along all four corners of your property. Better yet, if your vegetation area is small, try to build a transparent shed over it for added protection from groundhogs and other such rodents.

Since every location and every property is different, there are different ways through which groundhogs can make their way into your property. It varies from a case to case basis. So getting some custom advice from an animal control company would work better for your particular case.
